Michael "Pinball" Clemons: Be Brave Enough To Speak Out Against Violence

“We have the power to effect change,” Michael Pinball Clemons says, “[but] if we don’t have the courage to care, it won’t happen." Clemons recently addressed a forum of community leaders in the wake of the tragic shooting of Kasandra Perkins, 22, by her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher. Clemons said it is vital for men—and all people, but men especially in this instance—to be brave enough to stand up to this type of violence and "put someone's interests before your own." When enough people take a stand, positive strides can be made, Clemons told the audience.

Clemons is actively involved in community efforts against violence. One of the main organizations he works with is the Argos' Stop the Violence campaign, which aims to educate youth about gun violence and mobilize them to speak up and save lives. Known for his community leadership and personal integrity as much as he is for the numerous CFL records he has broken—both as a coach and a player—Clemons stands up for important issues and inspires others to get involved and make a difference.
