This fall, public space artist Candy Chang will take her Before I Die project from community walls to the printed page with the release of a new book on St. Martin’s Press. Chang is a former New York Times art director who uses simple objects, such as stickers and chalk, to bolster community engagement. Her Before I Die walls, which ask people to write down one thing they wish to do before they die, have been popping up throughout North America. They’ve appeared from university campuses to suburban malls. The photo book, Chang writes in an email, “will feature lots of walls around the world, as well as personal stories and visual insights into our aspirations from city to city and as a whole.”
