Chuck Klosterman, Philip Gourevitch, and Kurt Andersen are among the pop culture heavyweights involved in an upcoming benefit to support the residents and businesses of Red Hook, Brooklyn that were hit the hardest by Superstorm Sandy. The event, Defiance: A Literary Benefit to Rebuild Red Hook, will feature Klosterman, The Ethicist at The New York Times, and a group of his peers performing literary readings that celebrate the past and future of the New York community. 100 per cent of the proceeds of this event will go to Restore Red Hook and the Red Hook Initiative. The two nonprofit organizations have recently been created to help raise funds and get victims of the storm back on their feet. The event will also feature live music from Steve Earle.
